Thanks Jon for these posts.

The related issue is to consider why people with money would want to start businesses in Vermont and/or live in Vermont.

I believe it is because we spend the money we do to have good roads, good medical care, good schools, a good environment and also a friendly and compassionate state. Slashing the budget is what would scare the wealthier away, not a reasonable tax system. This is not to say that there isn't room for improvement and increases in efficiency that we should strive to achieve. But we should not cheapen ourselves in the process.

To those people whose sole criteria is lower taxes (even though they can clearly afford more) - - we will never compete with the no tax states. They can leave if they must.

Another point - - to donate to support your blog - - please give a snail mail address for those that don't pay on line.

Thanks - PJ

Thanks for this post.

Lots of misleading info. out there. I submitted testimony that critiqued the Chamber / GBIC memo.

The assertion that VT's "business climate" (read taxes) has chased a lot of businesses away is also without foundation. See the Addendum to Phase 9 of the Job Gap Study.
